GoHighLevel A2P Registration: Step-by-Step (and the Rejection Reasons to Avoid)

The exact sequence for registering A2P 10DLC inside GoHighLevel — Trust Center, brand, campaign, sample messages, opt-in evidence — and the specific wording that gets a first-time approval instead of a rejection email.
GoHighLevel A2P registration step-by-step and the rejection reasons to avoid

A2P registration is the part of a GoHighLevel setup that nobody enjoys and everyone eventually has to do. It is also the part with the highest rejection rate, and the rejections are almost always for the same handful of reasons. I register campaigns for clients regularly; this is the exact sequence I follow inside GoHighLevel, with the wording that passes review.

If you are not sure what A2P 10DLC is or whether it applies to you, read the plain-English A2P guide first. This article assumes you know you need it and want to get through it once.

Before you open the Trust Center: get four things ready

  1. Your legal business details exactly as they appear on your EIN letter (or your country’s tax registration): legal name, address, EIN. Copy them character for character.
  2. A live website on the business’s own domain that shows the business name and has a privacy policy page.
  3. SMS consent wording on every form that collects a phone number, plus a screenshot of it. Example under the phone field: “By providing your phone number, you agree to receive text messages from [Business]. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy.”
  4. A privacy policy paragraph about SMS: what you send, how people opt in, how they opt out, and a clear statement that phone numbers and consent are not shared with third parties for their marketing.

Doing these four before the form saves the most common round of rejections.

Step 1: Open the Trust Center

In the sub-account (not the agency view): Settings → Phone Numbers → Trust Center. You will see the brand and campaign sections with their current status. Make sure the sub-account’s business profile (Settings → Business Profile) already matches the legal details — GoHighLevel pre-fills from it.

Step 2: Register the brand

  • Business type: Private company / LLC / Sole proprietor — whichever matches your registration. Sole proprietors without an EIN use the restricted sole-prop flow, which has lower message limits.
  • Legal name, address, EIN: from your tax documents. A trading name goes in the “DBA” field if there is one, not in the legal name field.
  • Website: the business’s own domain, https, loading.
  • Contact: a real person at the business with a business email address on the same domain where possible.
  • Vertical / industry: the closest honest match.

Submit. Brand approval is usually quick; a failure here almost always means a mismatch with the EIN record. Check the exact spelling and suffix (LLC, Inc.), and the address, and resubmit.

Step 3: Register the campaign

This is where reviewers actually read what you wrote. Enter it as if you were explaining to a careful stranger why every recipient expects your messages.

Use case

For a typical service business: Mixed (or Low Volume Mixed if you send under about 2,000 messages a day). It covers reminders, replies, and occasional promotions from one number. Choose a single-purpose use case only if you genuinely send one kind of message.

Campaign description (copy the structure)

“[Legal Business Name] sends appointment confirmations and reminders, responses to customer enquiries, and occasional promotional offers to customers who have opted in through the contact and booking forms on [website] or by texting our business number. Message frequency varies. Customers can reply STOP to opt out at any time and HELP for assistance. Message and data rates may apply.”

Sample messages (provide 2–5; include the business name and opt-out)

  • “Hi {first name}, this is [Business]. Your appointment is confirmed for {date} at {time}. Reply C to confirm or R to reschedule. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “[Business]: thanks for your enquiry — we’ll call you within the hour. Reply here if it’s urgent. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “[Business]: our seasonal offer ends Friday — book at [link]. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Use the merge-field braces as shown; reviewers understand them. Every sample should look like something a customer who opted in would expect.

Message flow / opt-in description

“Customers opt in by submitting the contact or booking form at [URL], which displays the following consent text next to the phone number field: ‘[paste your exact consent sentence]’. Customers may also opt in by texting our business number. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Opt-out is available at any time by replying STOP.”

Opt-in evidence

Upload the screenshot of the form showing the consent text, and link the privacy policy. If the platform asks for the URL of the form, give the page it lives on.

Opt-in, opt-out and help keywords and messages

Keep the defaults (START/STOP/HELP) and make the auto-replies specific: “[Business]: You are now opted out and will receive no further messages. Reply START to opt back in.” and “[Business]: For help contact [email/phone]. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Submit the campaign. Then wait; review takes days to weeks and is done by a third party, not by GoHighLevel.

While it is pending

  • Do not send SMS campaigns from the number. Filtered messages can hurt the number’s reputation before you have even started.
  • Use email for confirmations and reminders temporarily — the workflows can branch on a “A2P approved” custom value so you flip one switch later.
  • Do not create a second campaign to “speed things up”. Duplicate submissions get both rejected.

Rejected? Match the reason to the fix

Rejection reason (paraphrased) Fix
Opt-in not clearly described / no consent evidence Add the consent sentence under the phone field, screenshot it, describe it in the message flow, resubmit
Privacy policy missing SMS terms or shares data with third parties Add an SMS section and the “not shared for third-party marketing” statement
Sample messages missing brand name or opt-out language Add “[Business]:” and “Reply STOP to opt out” to every sample
Website unreachable, under construction or mismatched name Fix the site; business name visible in the footer; policy linked
Use case does not match content Choose Mixed if you send several types; align description and samples
Brand mismatch / unverifiable Correct the legal name, address or EIN to match the tax record exactly
Mentions of leads, lists or affiliate/loan/debt content Remove any suggestion of purchased lists; some verticals need special campaign types

Fix every listed reason before resubmitting, not just the first one — reviewers stop at the first problem they find and there may be more behind it.

For agencies registering many clients

Each client is its own brand and campaign; there is no shortcut. What you can standardise is the material: a template consent sentence for every client form, a privacy-policy paragraph, a set of sample messages per industry, and a checklist that the client completes (EIN letter, website live, policy published) before you open the Trust Center. Registration then becomes a fifteen-minute task instead of a two-week correspondence. This is part of the white-label setup work I do with agencies.

Start it on day one of any GoHighLevel build. The CRM setup guide puts phone-number purchase and A2P submission in step 1 for exactly this reason: everything else can be built while the review runs.

FAQ

Where is A2P registration in GoHighLevel?

In the sub-account: Settings → Phone Numbers → Trust Center. Register the brand first, then the campaign. Each sub-account that sends SMS to US numbers needs its own registration.

Can I send SMS from GoHighLevel while A2P is pending?

Messages may be heavily filtered or blocked until the campaign is approved. Use email for confirmations meanwhile and do not launch SMS campaigns until the status shows approved.

Why was my GoHighLevel A2P campaign rejected?

The most common reasons: no SMS consent text on the website form, a privacy policy that does not mention SMS or says data is shared, sample messages without the business name and opt-out, or brand details that do not match the EIN record.

Does an agency need to register each client separately?

Yes. Registration is per business (brand) and per sub-account. An agency cannot register once for all clients; each client’s legal entity registers its own brand and campaign.
